Fla. Stat. 316.515: no vehicle may exceed a height of 13 ft 6 in (162 in) inclusive of load. Exception: an AUTOMOBILE TRANSPORTER may measure up to 14 ft (168 in) inclusive of load.

Fla. Stat. 316.515: 48 ft baseline semitrailer, rising to 57 ft only where kingpin-to-rear-axle is 41 ft or less AND a 49 CFR 393.86 rear underride guard is fitted. No statutory overall limit. ⚠️ THREE commonly mis-cited Florida numbers: "Florida = 75 ft overall" appears on broker sites and is in NO official Florida source — do not publish it; the 68 ft figure is straight-truck-plus-trailer only; the 65 ft figure applies to non-CMVs only.

The 53 ft (VA) / 57 ft (FL) / 57 ft (AL) allowance is conditional on kingpin-to-rear-axle of 41 ft or less; in FL and AL a 49 CFR 393.86 rear underride guard is also required.

These escort figures are route-dependent — they can change with road classification, lane width, two-lane vs multilane, and time of day. Confirm with the permit office before dispatching.

Front escort required over: 10ft wide
Rear escort required over: 10ft wide
Both escorts required over: 14ft wide
Height escort required over: 14.5ft tall

Per FAC 14-26.012: >10'-12' wide = 1 escort (daytime); >12'-14' = 1 escort at all times (2 escorts if lanes <12' wide or ADT>12,000); >14'-16' = 2 escorts (front on 2-lane/precede, rear follows on 4-lane divided); >16' = police escort(s) (2 law-enforcement on state-maintained roads). Height >14'6"-16' = 1 height-pole escort precedes; height >16' = 1 law-enforcement + 1 qualified escort (route survey required >15' high). Length >95' = 1 escort; >150' = 2 (1 if limited-access); >250' = 1 law-enforcement + 1 escort. Single escort precedes on 2-lane, follows on 4-lane divided.

Over-dimension loads move daytime only (1/2 hr before sunrise to 1/2 hr after sunset). Loads <=10' wide, legal trailer length, height <=14'6" may move all days incl. Sat & Sun during daylight; loads >10'-14' wide may move until 12:00 noon Sat & Sun; wider/over-dimension loads prohibited weekends unless permit notes otherwise. No movement 7-9 a.m. & 4-6 p.m. in Hillsborough and Miami-Dade counties. No travel when horizontal visibility <1,000 ft. Certain night moves only with law-enforcement escort + enhanced lighting.

Holiday blackouts: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas, day after Christmas (Friday-before observed if holiday falls Saturday; Monday-after if Sunday).

Superload Thresholds

Florida does not codify a single fixed 'superload' threshold; loads above the PAS self-issue trip-permit caps (reported as 16' wide / 18' high / 150' long / 200,000 lbs; 140,000 lbs self-propelled) go to manual permit-office review/route analysis. Caps are secondary-sourced and not treated as verified official values.
