Pilot Car / Escort Certification Requirements by State
Which states require formal pilot car / escort vehicle operator training or certification before you can legally work as an escort — and which don't.
Home › Pilot Car Certification
27 states verified directly against state statutes, administrative codes, or official DOT pages (source cited for each). This is about the escort driver's own certification — a separate question from when a load's dimensions trigger a legal requirement to have an escort at all, covered on our Permit Requirements by State pages. Requirements change — always confirm current rules directly with the state before you travel.
