NRS 484D.605: a vehicle must not be operated on any Nevada highway if its height including load exceeds 14 ft (168 in), measured from the surface on which the vehicle stands. Baled hay may reach 15 ft.

NRS 484D.615(9)(b): "This section does not apply to ... a truck-tractor drawing a semitrailer that does not exceed 53 feet in length." So there is NO overall limit for a tractor plus a semitrailer of 53 ft or less. The 70 ft applies to combinations NOT on that exemption list — that is what our previous figure was. ⚠️ Quoting "Nevada = 70 ft" for a tractor-semitrailer is wrong in BOTH directions: a 53 ft van at roughly 72 ft overall is legal, while a non-exempt combination is capped at 70. Not road-class dependent. NV's 40 ft is a motortruck (single-unit) limit and 45 ft is a bus limit.

Escort / Pilot Car Thresholds (see glossary for terms, certification requirements for the driver)

These escort figures are route-dependent — they can change with road classification, lane width, two-lane vs multilane, and time of day. Confirm with the permit office before dispatching.

Front escort required over: 12ft wide
Rear escort required over: 14ft wide
Both escorts required over: 14ft wide
Height escort required over: 15.5ft tall

Nevada escort rules are lane-count dependent (NAC 484D.670(3)). A pilot car must PRECEDE (front/lead) if: front overhang over 25 ft; height over 15'6" (lead car must carry a clearance pole = 186 in); width over 12 ft (144 in) AND on a 2- or 3-lane highway; OR width over 16 ft (192 in) on any highway. A pilot car must FOLLOW (rear) if: rear overhang over 25 ft; length over 110 ft (or over 120 ft with mechanically-steered rear axle); OR width over 14 ft (168 in). Two escorts result once both triggers are met. Additional pilot car(s) plus law-enforcement/utility coordination may be required by NDOT for loads over 17 ft wide on 2/3-lane roads, over 19 ft wide on 4+-lane roads, or over 16 ft high. Not weight-tied.

General rule (NAC 484D.640(15)): an oversize/overweight vehicle may NOT travel during hours of darkness, holiday hours, or on a weekend, except as set forth in the permit or NDOT special instructions. Exceptions (NAC 484D.645): loads within width <=12 ft, height <=15 ft, length <=110 ft (120 ft w/ steered rear axle), overhang <=15 ft MAY move during darkness/holiday hours if approved; daylight WEEKEND travel is allowed for loads within width <=14 ft, height <=15 ft, length <=110/120 ft. Loads exceeding those caps are curfewed to daylight weekdays. Holiday-hours/weekend movement further limited on I-80 Sparks-to-California and I-15 out of Las Vegas.

Nevada's NAC/NRS 484D does NOT codify a named 'superload' category or numeric threshold. The largest movements are handled through single-trip permit route/structural review; NAC 484D.640(12) triggers mandatory additional pilot car(s) plus law-enforcement/utility coordination once a load exceeds 17 ft wide (2/3-lane), 19 ft wide (4+-lane), or 16 ft high. No official superload dimension or weight number exists to report.
