47 O.S. §14-103: no vehicle with or without load shall exceed 13 1/2 ft (162 in) on any COUNTY ROAD, or 14 ft (168 in) on any turnpike, interstate, U.S. or state highway, unless a greater height is authorised by special permit. The figure shown is the county-road limit — the one that holds everywhere in the state. Confirm your route class before planning to 14 ft.

47 O.S. 14-103: 53 ft semitrailer both ON and OFF the National Network, so one trailer number is safe here — but it must be LABELLED as the semitrailer figure, because the same section also carries a 45 ft (single truck/bus), a 70 ft (any OTHER combination) and an 82 ft (towaway trailer transporter, NN only) number that are easy to grab by mistake. 53 ft extends to 59 ft 6 in under 14-118(C). Non-NN doubles capped at 29 ft per trailer.

Escort / Pilot Car Thresholds (see glossary for terms, certification requirements for the driver)

These escort figures are route-dependent — they can change with road classification, lane width, two-lane vs multilane, and time of day. Confirm with the permit office before dispatching.

Front escort required over: 12ft wide
Rear escort required over: 12ft wide
Both escorts required over: 14ft wide
Height escort required over: 15.8ft tall

Per OAC 730:50-5-18(b): width over 12 ft (>144 in) but not more than 14 ft requires ONE front escort on two-lane/super-two-lane highways and a REAR escort on multi-lane highways. Width over 14 ft (>168 in) requires TWO escorts (front + rear) on two-lane/super-two-lane (rear only on multi-lane); width over 16 ft (>192 in) requires two escorts on ALL roads. Height 15 ft 9 in (189 in) or more requires two escorts, a certified height pole, and advance notice to all utilities/railroads on route. Length: a combination over 80 ft requires one front escort on two-lane/super-two-lane; over 100 ft requires two escorts. Not tied to weight. Escort operators for hire must be ODOT-certified. Oklahoma Highway Patrol (Troop S) escort is required for loads over 20 ft wide (contract, 3-5 working days lead).

Oversize loads move DAYLIGHT ONLY (1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset, 47 O.S. 14-101). Overweight-only movements may travel continuously, including at night. Nighttime oversize movement is prohibited unless specifically authorized by the ODOT Executive Director. Metro rush-hour curfew (OAC 730:50-5-1): oversize permitted loads may NOT move on the Interstate System in Oklahoma, Tulsa, and Cleveland Counties 7:00-9:00 a.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m. Mon-Fri. Saturday/Sunday travel allowed for general oversize loads (daylight only), but houses/buildings and industrialized housing may NOT move Sat or Sun. Operations must cease in hazardous weather.

Holiday blackouts: New Year's Day (Jan 1), Memorial Day, Independence Day (Jul 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day (Dec 25). Movement IS allowed on MLK Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, and Veterans Day.

Extreme-Load Escalation Triggers

This jurisdiction does not define a "superload" class. The figures below are triggers for other escalations — read the note beneath them before planning against these numbers.

Oklahoma defines a superload by reference: per OAC 730:50-5-4(l), 'A superload is defined as any overweight permit load that exceeds the Standard Drawing OL-1 trucks.' Any such load requires a detailed structural analysis of every bridge on the route. No published superload width/height/length or single weight number. Related caps: oversize loads may not exceed 16 ft wide on the Interstate or 20 ft wide on the state highway system.
