W.S. 31-18-802 applies the federal 80,000 lb gross standard. ⚠️ Wyoming additionally holds a GRANDFATHER right under 23 U.S.C. 127(d) permitting up to 117,000 lb GVW on several DESIGNATED ROUTES, including portions of the Interstate system. The figure shown is the limit that holds everywhere in the state; 117,000 lb is route-specific and was previously published here as if it were the general limit. Confirm your exact route with WYDOT before loading above 80,000 lb.

W.S. 31-18-802: no vehicle, unladen or with load or load-holding devices, may exceed 14 ft (168 in) in height. Implements and produce of husbandry of greater height may move in agricultural operations during daylight without permit or fee, under WYDOT rules.

W.S. 31-18-802(a)(iv)(B): "In a truck-tractor semitrailer combination, no semitrailer shall exceed sixty (60) feet in length." Wyoming is a 60 ft state — notably MORE permissive than the federal 53 ft floor, so publishing 53 here would send a carrier for a permit they do not need. ⚠️ Our previous 85 ft is the same subsection's residual clause — "For any other combination of vehicles the overall length shall not exceed eighty-five (85) feet" — which expressly does NOT apply to a standard tractor-semitrailer. The Wyoming Highway Patrol page lists 60/81/85 as a flat bullet list under "Statutory Size Limits", which is the likely route by which 85 became our headline. Limits are stated as "Length-all highways", so there is no road-class split; the 31-18-803(a) exception covers auto/saddlemount transporters only.

These escort figures are route-dependent — they can change with road classification, lane width, two-lane vs multilane, and time of day. Confirm with the permit office before dispatching.

Per WYDOT Rules Ch. 5, Section 9. WIDTH: on 2-lane primary/secondary routes, TWO escorts (one front + one rear) required when 14 ft wide or greater (168 in) OR any part extends left of centerline; on interstate/divided/4-lane-with-center-turn-lane, ONE rear escort required at 15 ft wide or greater. WHP may require more. LENGTH: 2-lane routes - escorts required at 110 ft or greater overall (or if crossing centerline); interstate/divided - 150 ft or greater. REAR OVERHANG: 1 rear escort on all highways for 25 ft or more. HEIGHT: any move exceeding 17 ft (204 in) requires a front escort with a height-measuring device on all highways. OVERWEIGHT: moves with Bridge Program restrictions require a rear escort. Escorts hold ~1,000 ft spacing.

Night travel: Generally restricted
Weekend travel: Generally allowed
Sunday travel: Generally allowed

Oversize movements confined to daylight (defined 1/2 hr before sunrise to 1/2 hr after sunset). Exceptions allowed after dark with WHP permission, or for: single unit in a combination not over 110 ft, single unit alone not over 75 ft, or a load up to 10 ft wide on INTERSTATE highways only. Loads over 18 ft wide barred from 2-lane routes during school-bus/commuter traffic. Overweight-only (legal size) loads are not limited to daylight.

Holiday blackouts: Escorted oversize moves not allowed on: New Year's Day (Jan 1), Memorial Day (last Mon May), Independence Day (Jul 4), Labor Day (1st Mon Sep), Thanksgiving (that day only), Christmas (Dec 25). Restriction runs 1/2 hr after sunset before the holiday until 1/2 hr before sunrise after; extended for 3-day/weekend-adjacent holidays.

Superload Thresholds

Class A 'Super Load' permits authorize movements of non-divisible loads exceeding Class B/C limits (Class B/C max = 18 ft wide, 17 ft high). Approved only by the WHP Overweight Loads Office. Loads more than 18 ft wide or high require minimum 24-hour prior notice. Multi-piece loads exceeding 117,000 lbs on primary/secondary routes use Class W permits. Weight superloads subject to structural/bridge review before issuance.
