The Small Business in Transportation Coalition (SBTC) has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to decertify the commercial driver's license (CDL) programs of New York and California. The lawsuit claims that the two states are in substantial noncompliance with federal CDL regulations. If successful, the decertification would primarily affect new CDL issuance and renewals, rather than existing commercial drivers with valid licenses.

For oversize operators, this means that if the decertification occurs, it may impact their ability to hire new drivers or renew licenses in these states.
